Friends and former team-mates of ex-Redruth captain Neil Douch will be undertaking a fundraising walk in his memory over the next three days.

Neil died last May after a lengthy illness. He played for Redruth between 1990 and 2011, originally as a back-row forward before moving to the front-row where he earned Cornwall honours and played more than 100 first team games for the Reds.

He was captain of the club during their 125th anniversary season.

In his memory, his rugby friends will walk from Wadebridge Camels RFC, which was his first club, to Redruth RFC.

The group will start today (Thursday) and will walk to Padstow via the Camel Trail and then pick up the Cornish coast path at Trevose finishing at Mawgan Porth.

Then on Friday they will start at Mawgan Porth and will pass through Watergate Bay, Newquay, Crantock, Perranporth and finish at St Agnes.

The final day of the walk will be on Saturday when they will start from St Agnes and follow the coast path Porthtowan and then inland to Redruth RFC arriving at the ground at around 12:30pm in time for a players’ reunion ahead of the club’s National League match with Hinckley.

Stewart Whitworth has set up a JustGiving page for the group, with money going to Brain Tumour Trust. It has already raised more than £1,300. There will be a bucket collection at the match on Saturday as well.
