Cornwall woke up on Monday to a widespread freeze - with people urged not to travel unless it's essential and 999 services dealing with reports of hundreds of accidents linked to ice over the weekend.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said it dealt with more than 300 reports of road accidents on Saturday and Sunday.
Cornwall Council's highways contractor has been working around the clock to salt major routes, with gritters on the road from lunchtime on Sunday.
A number of schools have announced closures on Monday, with others choosing to delay opening times.
Cornwall Council said: "The following schools have notified us that they are either opening late or will be closed on Monday 12 December. Opening times are specified where we have been notified of a time."
