CORNISH theme park Flambards has announced it is retiring some of its most popular rides due to an “ongoing shortage of specialist parts”.
In a statement released on its website and social media, a spokesperson for the theme park said: “After many years of faithful service, we are sadly retiring a number of our thrill rides. This includes The Thunderbolt, Sky Swinger, SkyForce and The Hornet Rollercoaster, some of which will leave the site shortly.
“This decision was not made lightly, and we understand these rides have been favourites for many of our guests over the years. However, the ongoing shortage of specialist parts has made the maintenance increasingly challenging for these rides, and the safety of our guests is and always will be our top priority.
“We recognise that the removal of these rides will affect the experience for our thrill-seeking visitors. In light of this, we have adjusted our pricing to reflect these changes, and this will now be £14.95 per visitor, with those under 95cm remain free of charge.”
The first inkling that things were afoot came on Monday, when a reduced price of £12.95 per person was announced due to rides being closed, including the Log Flume.
Within 24 hours of the additional announcement on Wednesday, the attraction’s Facebook feed was inundated with over 1,600 comments within 24 hours, with many speculating on the reason for the closure of the rides and the future of the park.
The spokesperson outlined remaining attractions including Skyraker, the Thunderdome, Ferdi’s Indoor Play and the Victorian Village.
The park will be closed from Monday until July 1 for “park updates” and to prepare the site for an “exciting” summer season. “We greatly appreciate your support and understanding as we make these changes,” the spokesperson added.
Season pass holders have been advised that if they can cancel their passes with a full refund, or continue visiting with a partial refund of £20 per pass and complimentary kart track rides for the rest of the season using a voucher system.
