The incident commander at a property blaze in Newquay on Monday night has praised the crews professionalism and aggressive firefighting which brought the fire rapidly under control.
Four fire appliances including two from Newquay as well as one apiece from Perranporth and St Columb attended the incident at Pargolla Road at about 5.30pm.
Firefighters used an aerial ladder platform to extinguish the roof fire as well as four breathing apparatus, multiple hose reels and thermal imaging.
The fire service closed Pargolla Road and the end of St Thomas’s Road while the crews were at the scene.
The roads re-opened to hospital staff and patients at 6pm and to the public at 6.45pm.
Incident commander Lee Beresford said: “There was building work being carried out on the property during the day and fortunately the owner who saw smoke quickly called the fire service and got us there just in time to prevent further spread.
“There is significant damage to one of the bedrooms but overall the crews were quick to bring the fire under control and prevent further spread.
“We left the incident after the fire was put out and after multiple reinspections and large amounts of exposing from removal of ceilings inside the property,
“I’ve praised the crews that attended the incident for their professionalism and aggressive firefighting which brought the fire rapidly under control.
