ONE of the best days out for families this summer awaits visitors at the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.
This year’s events programme features an brand-new theatre show full of thrills and laughs. Cornish based theatre company Illyria are bringing their specially commissioned show Escape from Treasure Island to the muesum. Watch the show’s heroes as they race to solve the clues, find the treasure and defeat the baddies.
Will they outsmart the hungry gorilla intent on eating them, evade the clutches of the ghostly phantom zombie, avoid the slithering tentacles of the giant kraken and escape the deadly jaws of the island’s resident crocodile? Packed full of fun and plenty of silliness, Escape from Treasure Island will run four times a day between now until September 1.
In addition to the theatre shows, the museum will be running a Treasure Map Trail for families. Hidden throughout the site are a number of stamps, add each one to the map to complete the design and reveal the location of the pirate plunder. Those who manage to find all the stamps and complete their treasure map will earn themselves a prize.
Families can take part in the Museum’s Make & Take crafting sessions where you can create a pirate hat, make a flying parrot wrist puppet or colour in and decorate their treasure map. All the vital accessories for a proper pirate.
The summer holiday activities have been inspired by the museum’s current major temporary exhibition, Pirates. Discover how popular culture has shaped how we think of pirates today and how this image of piracy continues to evolve through film, fiction and fashion. Unearth stories of the real pirates of the Caribbean and discover what life was like for those who turned to piracy.
