EMERGENCY services were scrambled following reports a man was near a cliff edge in Newquay threatening to harm himself.

Devon & Cornwall Police, Newquay and Padstow Coastguard rescue teams and the ambulance service attended the incident near Towan Beach on Sunday, September 8 at 1.30am.

The man in his thirties was located in the area of Killacourt, The Crescent, and brought safely back from cliff railings by the coastguard.

He was checked over by paramedics and taken into the care of health professionals at Treliske Hospital.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: “After rigging for a technical rescue all assets were stood down once the incident was resolved.”
