Emergency services were scrambled after a fisherman fell onto rocks whilst angling off the Newquay coastline on Tuesday.

Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to assist South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with the casualty at Towan Headland at about 10pm. 

The casualty was located quickly and cared for by the team, then with the help of a paramedic responder until the arrival of the ambulance service. 

The incident expanded, involving Devon and Cornwall Police and extensive searches of Towan Headland and the surrounding area, until the teams were stood down shortly before 1am.

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard said: “Well done to the members of the public who initially located the casualty, called for assistance and cared for them prior to our arrival.

“If you see someone in difficulty along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.

“Stay safe.”
