EMERGENCY services helped two people who were injured at Fistral Beach on Thursday night (May 9).

A surfer was injured and shortly after a casualty was discovered on the rocks at North Fistral.

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team said: “During weekly training Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to Fistral  Beach at 6.50pm to assist South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with an injured surfer.

“Upon arrival, the casualty was assessed and treated before being stretchered off of the beach and into the RNLI Lifeguards Newquay station at North Fistral, prior to handing over the casualty to the ambulance service upon arrival.

“As we were about to depart Fistral at approximately 8.15pm we were notified by the public about a potential casualty on the rocks at North Fistral.

“After a brief search the casualty was located and assessed before the ambulance service was contacted. Whilst the team were treating and stabilising the casualty.

“Cornwall Air Ambulance landed in front of The Headland Hotel and Spa and a land ambulance arrived.

“The casualty was taken back up the cliff by the team and handed over to the ambulance service for further treatment and transport to hospital.

“We wish both casualties a speedy recovery.”
