Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh visited Cornwall recently and met youngsters involved with the Children’s Sailing Trust at Trevassack Lake.
Schoolchildren participating in water-sport activities on the lake had opportunity to meet Her Royal Highness and show her their newly-acquired skills.
She also met Holly Martin who is using sailing at Trevassack to help recover from a traumatic brain injury.
Her Royal Highness had the unique experience of touring the lake on ‘Floaty’, the trust’s one-of-a-kind, solar-powered accessible platform that allows groups of all ages and abilities, including their mobility equipment, to get out on the water.
Jakie Jewell, CEO for Children’s Sailing Trust and its subsidiaries, said: The work the CST team do on a daily basis makes such a difference to so many people, it was an honour to be able to share what we do and its impact with Her Royal Highness.
“The visit showcased the effects of our charitable work on young people in Cornwall and our community facilities for people of all ages and abilities both near and far.”
The Duchess of Edinburgh also visited Colwith Farm Distillery in Lanlivery to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the business.
Founder Steve Dustow offered the Duchess a tour of the distillery, showcasing the sustainable production process and inviting Sophie to fill and hand-seal the very first bottle of Colwith’s new limited-edition Distillers’ Cut Gin, a single-batch spirit created with gin aficionados in mind.
The distillery was launched in July 2018, and is best known for making award-winning spirits from potatoes grown on the fifth-generation family farm.
It was selected as part of the Duchess of Edinburgh’s visit, which also included stop-offs with the Children’s Sailing Trust on Trevassack Lake and Falmouth University’s Woodlane Campus.
“We feel honoured to have welcomed the Duchess of Edinburgh as part of her Cornwall visit,” said Steve.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to share a behind-the-scenes snapshot of how we lovingly create premium spirits from locally-sourced seasonal ingredients, from plough-to-bottle on a single site.”
