Cornwall’s ‘Great Wall of China’ was taken over by a procession of adult toys on New Year’s Eve.

Sightings of mugs, cups, and teapots of all sorts have appeared for many years on the wall on the A39 between Truro and Playing Place, on the way to Falmouth.

Sometimes the ornaments are seen for weeks, months or years – and there is even a Facebook page dedicated to the sightings of the bewildering trinkets.

However, on New Year’s Eve the wall was adorned by a somewhat different display as the mugs had all been replaced.

Mark Woolcock says he was driving along the A39 when he saw a row of the adult toys placed on the wall.

Mark, who took the images at around 8am on New Year’s Eve, said: “I just love the wit and humour involved with the whole story – the secret appearance (and then disappearance) of mugs, the addition of an occasional tea-pot and now this. Good solid Cornish comedy.”

According to local sources, the wall’s display peaked in 2018 with as many as 40 mugs perfectly arranged along the wall – and recently it has even been filled with rubber ducks.

The latest images received a mixed reaction when posted on the Facebook page with many people having a good laugh.

One person referenced an iconic Pink Floyd album while another driver admitted going past the ‘spectacle’, but thought they were more innocent items, writing: “Is that what I think it is? I drove past this morning, and I thought it was a bunch of flasks lol.”

The items on the wall have now changed again with rubber ducks replacing the toys.
