A driver was taken to hospital with whiplash following a collision between a lorry and a van near Truro yesterday morning (Wednesday, January 22).

Police were called at around 10.45am following the two-vehicle crash which took place on the A39 between Playing Place and Truro. The driver of the van sustained a suspected neck injury.

Crew from Truro Community Fire Station were also at the scene, near Kea Church, to check on the gas cylinders that were onboard the commercial vehicle to make sure they were safe.

A spokesperson for the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “One crew from Truro attended a call to a road traffic collision where a commercial vehicle and car had collided.

“On arrival one casualty was being treated by paramedics. The commercial vehicle was carrying an amount of gas cylinders.

“Firefighters checked the gas cylinders with a quattro detector and thermal imaging and confirmed that there were no damaged or venting cylinders. Firefighters made the scene safe.

The road was partially blocked when emergency services attended the scene causing long tailbacks. The road had been cleared by around 1.30pm.
