STRIKING new designs have been unveiled for the new high street due to be built at Nansledan, which will be called Market Street.

The Duchy of Cornwall’s ambition is for Market Street to become a vibrant and thriving year-round shopping, lifestyle and leisure destination for Cornwall benefitting local residents and the many year-round visitors to the area.

The images provide an early glimpse of the first phase of Market Street, which includes plans for a Food Hall that will showcase the very best of local Cornish produce, supermarket, artisan retail units, cafés and restaurants and office spaces, including a brand new flexible-working hub.

Sam Kirkness, the development manager at the Duchy of Cornwall, said: “We’re delighted to be releasing these latest designs for Market Street, which is a hugely exciting project for Nansledan, Newquay and the north coast of Cornwall.

“It will be a vibrant destination for local residents, the wider catchment area and for visitors from around the UK and the world, creating business and employment opportunities, at a time of economic uncertainty.

“Like all of Nansledan, Market Street will be within easy walking distance of a range of public amenities and picturesque green spaces, and we look forward to work starting in early 2025, with the first buildings expected to be available for occupation from 2026.”

Market Street will be a short walk from the Chapel Wetlands, where the Duchy is creating a walking, wildlife and leisure trail, scheduled to open alongside Market Street phase one. It will be accessed via the Newquay Strategic Route, which will connect Nansledan to the A362 at the Hendra roundabout, linking through to Rialton Road to the north east.

Nansledan will eventually have around 4,000 homes and has been designed by the Duchy of Cornwall as a sustainable urban extension to Newquay that can meet local housing needs and support local employment. More than 700 homes have been built so far and Nansledan is already home to around 40 businesses, which include Home Nansledan, Shiva Studio, Mo Move Newquay and Blush Hair & Beauty.
