A nurse and her team from Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) have been shortlisted for two awards at the inaugural Dementia Care Awards.

Strategic lead Caroline Ellis and her admiral nurse team work in partnership with Dementia UK and Cornwall Foundation NHS Trust to support carers and families of dementia patients admitted to RCHT.

They have developed the Supporting Ahead Programme (SAP), providing support and helping families and carers to connect with dementia services and organisations.

Quarterly events enable carers to learn from professionals, access immediate support for their caring role, and share their own experiences, increasing peer support and reducing social isolation.

Caroline is a finalist in the dementia nurse category, while SAP has been shortlisted in the dementia outreach category.

“We will be flying the flag for Cornwall and our ‘team dementia’ at the awards ceremony, and we would like to thank all the services and organisations involved in SAP,” said Caroline.

“We all have the same passion and determination to provide the best possible support for carers who are looking after their loved ones who live with dementia.”

The winners of the Dementia Care Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on Thursday, June 13.
