CROWDS have gathered to watch a whale and a pod of dolphins put on a display in Newquay Bay.
A Humpback whale and a pod of common dolphins have been spotted off Towan Headland today (Friday). A family of Harbour Porpoise were also spotted.
The whale was last seen cruising towards the Watergate Bay area.
The Humpback whale has been seen swimming along the Newquay coastline since New Year’s Eve.
Photographer Marie Lepage said: “I heard that the Humpback whale was spotted on New Year’s Eve and on New Year’s Day.
“I went out looking on Thursday but missed the whale by 10 minutes. I got up early to go look for it on Friday went to Watergate and heard it was spotted by the Huer’s Hut so we rushed back and managed to spot it in the distance.
“We then walked down to Towan Headland and spotted the Humpback whale again, with a large pod of common dolphins.
“Quite a crowd gathered to watch the spectacle.”
Kelsey Michelle, a wildlife guide with Padstow Sea Safaris, who videoed the spectacle, said: “Seeing dolphins is something I never tire of, especially so close to home, even with it being my job.
“They're amazing, beautiful creatures that are a real privilege to watch. But to see a Humpback Whale here too is something there are no words for and I will truly never forget. It’s one bucket list item finally ticked.”
