CREATIVE ladies have come up with various fundraising ideas to help raise £9,000 for Newquay RNLI.
The Newquay Thursday Club raised the money throughout the year by making crafts, staging coffee mornings, a fashion show, garden parties and a shanty cruise.
A painting by a renowned local artist also brought in valuable funds and another annual boost came by way of the Headland Hotel who donated “handsomely” for the Thursday Club’s help in putting up its Christmas decorations.
The social group for ladies, which is affiliated to Newquay Methodist Church, meet fortnightly and hold informal talks, visits and fun activities.
Each year they choose a local charity to support and in 2024 the ladies chose to support Newquay Lifeboat Station in the RNLI’s bicentenary year.
Maggie Biddle, the president of the Newquay Thursday Club said: ‘The final total was revealed at the Carols By Candlelight service before Christmas.
“It was a very special evening in the company of the Newquay Singers, The Celtic Fiddlers and the 3rd Newquay Brownies who have all played their part in helping us to achieve this record-breaking amount.
“This splendid sum was thanks to a whole team effort by all the ladies who have contributed in time and effort throughout the year whilst having a lot of fun on the way.
“The club is proud to support their local community and the know that Newquay RNLI volunteers will find good use for the funds to help them in their valiant voluntary service.”
A spokesperson for Newquay RNLI said: “Newquay RNLI volunteers were delighted to meet ladies from Newquay Thursday Club who have been busy throughout 2024 raising funds for their local lifeboat station.
“All at Newquay Lifeboat station would like to thank members of the Thursday Club and all businesses and groups who helped them to achieve this record-breaking donation.”
