Creative Newquay schoolchildren have been getting festive taking part in a Christmas colouring competition.

Around 3,000 pupils from 11 schools took part in the David Ball Agencies seventh annual ‘Colouring Competition’.

The children were asked to design a Christmas jumper and the winners from the eight age groups from four to 11 were replicated on to a sweatshirt by Brand 88 at Treloggan.

The winners of the jumpers were  Poppy Hicks age 10 from Nansledan School, Laurel Scott, age nine, from St Columb Minor Academy and Finlay Bazely, age four, from Indian Queens School.

Other winners included Charlotte Eley, age six, from St Newlyn East Learning Academy, Leo Gilbert age eight, from St Columb Major Academy, Phoebe age five, from Trenance Learning Academy and Sandy McCuteon age 11 from Newquay Junior Academy.

There were various other spot prizes on for grabs for the runner ups, which included a family pass to the Lighthouse Cinema.

Paula Marcelis from David Ball said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to these businesses that provided these prizes.

“In total we gave out over 90 prizes which included books from the Works Newquay who always give us a discount, chocolates and pens. In these very tough times, it is nice for us here at David Ball Agencies to give a little back to the community and put a smile on the children’s faces.

“It always creates such excitement for them and for us and we look forward to it immensely.”

A spokesperson for Trenance Learning Academy said: “We we’re delighted to take part in the colouring competition once again this year, as our children designed their own Christmas Jumpers.

“There were celebrations in the assembly, as six children won prizes for their drawings and Phoebe’s amazing design won, which meant she could wear her very own Christmas Jumper home with pride.

“We would like to thank David Ball for inviting Trenance to join in the wonderful competition once again this year and a big well done to all our children who took part.”

A spokesperson for Nansledan School added: “What fantastic artists we have at Nansledan.

“Well done to our competition winners and everyone that entered the David Ball Agencies Christmas Jumper a competition.”
