RAPE

DANIEL THOMAS, 31, of Thornton Close, Roche was found not guilty of raping a woman in Camborne in 2020 but guilty of attempting to rape her and sexually assaulting her. He will be sentenced on 3 January.

MARK OVERSBY, 34, of NFA, St Austell has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with raping a woman in Wadebridge on 27 November. He pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders’ Register by failing to notify police within three days of release from custody on 17 November. He was remanded in custody and his case listed for 7 January.

HARRY HARRIS, 23, of Bobs Close, St Blazey pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to raping a woman in St Blazey in 2021. His case was adjourned to 3 January.

SEX OFFENCES

NIGEL BEETON, 65, of Castle-an-Dinas, St Columb pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to, at St Austell in August and September 2022, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification intentionally attempted to communicate with the profiles of two girls, aged under 16, in a sexual way. He was made subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order restricting his contact with young people and his use of the internet, has to register with the police for five years and was given a community order and must do 100 hours unpaid work.

SIMON GALLEARS, 55, of Trelease, St Keverne pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to intentionally touching a 15-year-old girl in a sexual way in Liskeard in 2022. He was given conditional bail and his case listed for 25 July.

TOBIAS VOWDEN, 31, of College Lane, Bodmin pleaded guilty to, on 4 December 2023, for the purpose of sexual gratification attempting to communicate with a child under 16 on SnapChat requesting for inappropriate photos to be sent. The case was adjourned until 17 January.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

GAIUS BILLINGER, 41, of Alverton Road, Penzance was made subject to a 28-day domestic violence protection notice on 30 November not to contact or threaten a woman or go to Hilgrove Road, Newquay.

BEN WATERS, 37, of NFA was made subject to a 28-day domestic violence protection notice on 1 December not to contact or threaten a woman or to visit certain areas in Saltash.

ASSAULT

LEE BURT, 49, of St Austell failed to turn up to court to answer a charge of assaulting a police officer in St Austell on 12 June. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

GERALD VENNER, 38, of Albert Road, St Austell has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with assaulting a woman in St Austell occasioning her actual bodily harm on 23 November and 3 December. He has also been charged with using threatening behaviour towards another woman at Eastbourne Road, St Austell on 1 November. He was remanded in custody and his case listed for 7 January.

ETHAN EDWARDS, 20, of Trevithick Road, St Austell pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to, at the White Hart in St Austell on 1 November, inflicting grievous bodily harm on a woman, assaulting a man and damaging a police car. He was remanded in custody and his case listed for 4 April.

PATRICK LAMBOURNE, 24, of Woodland Close, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman occasioning her actual bodily harm at Lostwithiel on 11 December 2022 but denied strangling her on the same day. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting her in St Austell on 22 July 2022 but denied strangling her and damaging her car. His case was adjourned until 13 January.

RYAN CLEAVES, 32, of Borlase Crescent, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting a man in Bristol city centre on 24 March. He was given a ten-week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, and must have 12-months mental health treatment, pay £500 compensation, a £154 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

JAMIE WEEKES, 31, of Newman Road, Saltash pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman at Saltash on 3 November and to damaging a wardrobe and a wall. He was given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, and will have to undergo drug rehabilitation and pay a £154 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

STALKING/HARASSMENT

JONATHAN BATES, 54, of RAF St Mawgan pleaded guilty to disclosing/threatening to disclose private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress to a woman between August and November 2021 and to stalking four women (including the woman in the photography charge) between 2017 and 2022 involving serious alarm and distress by creating fake online accounts and uploading material to them. He was sent to Truro Crown Court and released on conditional bail which includes restrictions on his social media use and contacting his alleged victims. The case is listed for 2 January.

NATHAN GRIBBLE, 47, of Mount Ambrose pleaded guilty to, between 25 July and 6 October in St Austell and Newquay, stalking a woman. He pleaded not guilty to breaking bail conditions imposed by Truro Crown Court by contacting his victim but this case was proved. He was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned until 13 December.

DAVID ANDERSON, 54, was found guilty of, between August and November 2023 in Town End, Bodmin, harassing a woman by going to her home and the road outside her home, continuing to contact her via email and WhatsApp and trying to call her causing distress He was given a community order and must do 200 hours unpaid work and is banned from contacting his victim or going to certain areas in Bodmin until 5 December 2027. He has to pay a £114 victim surcharge and £775 costs.

THOMAS MOORE, 38, of Newby West, Carlisle pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to stalking a woman involving fear of violence in Liskeard between 4 and 16 October by attending her home, making threats, messaging her on social media and on the phone, approaching her in Aldi and sitting outside her children’s school. His case was adjourned until 27 June and he was remanded on conditional bail not to contact his alleged victim, enter Cornwall and to live at his address in Cumbria.

ROBBERY

MATTHEW ALDEN, 28, of NFA pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to robbing a man of his bike in St Austell on Christmas Eve 2022 and assaulting two police officers. He was given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years.

OFFENSIVE WEAPONS

NICHOLAS BURNAND, 47, of Barn Lane, St Columb pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to possessing a knife and an improvised cosh on Hilgrove Road, Newquay on 20 August 2023 and guilty to possessing 5.4g of MDMA and 0.6g of cocaine. He was fined £50 for the drug offences and his trial for the offensive weapon charges is listed for 27 June.

SHAUN MAY, 54, of Hyns An Vownder, Lane pleaded guilty to possessing a carving knife, 7.56g of cannabis and 26.91g of amphetamine on Tolcarne Road, Newquay on 7 August, driving a Mercedes Vito with 279 micrograms of BZE per litre of blood exceeding the limit of 50 and with 3.2 micrograms of cannabis per litre of blood exceeding the limit of two. He was given an interim driving ban and the case adjourned until 7 January.

KAYODE OGUNDANA, 21, of Treningle View, Bodmin pleaded guilty to possessing a knuckle duster and damaging the door of Bodmin Foyer on 10 February. He was ordered to have 12 months mental health treatment, made subject to a restraining order not to contact a woman until 4 December 2026, fined £120 and ordered to pay £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

DRIVE WHILST DISQUALIFIED

JOSHUA FAULKNER, 31, of Edgcumbe Road, Newquay pleaded guilty to driving a Transit van while disqualified in Falmouth on 30 August. His case was adjourned until 9 January.

DRINK/DRUG DRIVE

CLAIRE STAYNER, 50, of Cross Close, Newquay failed to turn up to court to answer a charge of driving on The Sang, Newquay on 1 July with 235 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood exceeding the limit of 80. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

CHRISTOPHER BONNER, 44, of Carloggas Grove, St Columb pleaded guilty to driving on Goss Moor on 4 August with 2.5 micrograms of cannabis per litre of blood exceeding the limit of two and to possessing 0.16g of cocaine and 2.05g of cannabis. He was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £104 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

AMY DAVIS, 38, of Kingsley Court, St Columb pleaded guilty to driving on Trezaise Road, Roche on 2 November with 107 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. She was banned from driving for two years, which will be reduced by 24 weeks if she completes a course, fined £666 and ordered to pay a £266 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

STEVE BARRETT, 51, of Kernick Close, St Stephen pleaded guilty to driving a van on Kernick Close on 30 October with 78 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was banned from driving for 20 months which will be reduced by 20 weeks if he completes a course, fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

NATHAN CLARKE, 38, of Penrice Parc, St Austell pleaded not guilty to driving on Priory Road car park in St Austell on 2 November with 70 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He will stand trial on 12 May.

CHARLIE HOYLE, 27, of Grove Parc, Tywardreath Highway pleaded guilty to driving on Bucklers Lane, St Austell on 10 November with 59 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was banned from driving for 16 months, which will be reduced by 16 weeks if he completes a course, fined £500 and ordered to pay a £200 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
