ARSON

SHAUN MCCORMICK, 54, of NFA, Newquay pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to destroying by fire a caravan at St Erme on 29 December, strangling a woman between 15 September and 31 October, assaulting her occasioning her actual bodily harm on 28 November, criminal damage to a caravan, a BMW and a Renault van on 30 November, sending a message threatening to rape or harm her on 27 December and intimidating a witness in criminal proceedings on 28 December. He was given a six-year prison sentence.

SEX OFFENCES

MARK TALLING, 60, of Chapmans Way, St Austell has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with raping a woman in St Austell between 16 and 19 March 2018. His case will be heard on 4 April.

JOSHUA BEST, 30, of Roslyn Close, St Austell has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with raping a woman in St Austell in June 2022. His case will be heard on 4 April.

JAYDON CRADDOCK, 22, of Rose Hill, St Blazey was found not guilty at Truro Crown Court of sexually assaulting a woman in St Austell in November 2022. The case was discharged when the prosecution offered no evidence.

NELSON CROCKER, 26, of Penmare Terrace, Hayle has been sent to prison for 14 years by a judge at Truro Crown Court after he was found guilty of 27 sex offences against children in mid and south-east Cornwall.

ANDREW JOHNSON, 55, of Penhale Meadow, St Cleer pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to inciting a 15-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity by exposing her breasts. He pleaded not guilty to touching a 15-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl in a sexual way. His case was adjourned until 13 March.

CARLY HICKMAN, 37, of NFA, has been sent for trial at Truro Crown Court charged with, at Keast Mews, Fore Street, Saltash on 27 February she outraged public decency by masturbating. She was remanded in custody until her next hearing on 1 April.

ASSAULT

NICK ALEXANDER, 57, of Hall Barton Farm, Pelynt pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in Tregurrian, Newquay last March occasioning her actual bodily harm. He was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, must have mental health treatment for 12 months and was made subject to a restraining order not to contact his victim or go to Penvose Farm Holiday Park until 28 February 2030.

PAUL MURDOCH, 49, of Belmont Road, St Austell had a warrant for his arrest issued after he failed to turn up for court to be sentenced for assaulting a police officer at Albert Road, St Austell on 5 December and using threatening behaviour.

CIAN MCCLUSKY, 29, of Stanwick Court, Peterborough pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting and strangling a woman at an address in St Austell in November 2023. His trial is fixed for 13 October and he was released on conditional bail not to enter Cornwall except for court appearances, contact his alleged victim or go to an address in Spalding.

JOSHUA COOPER, 33, previously of Launceston now of Trevarthian Road, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman on High Cross Street, St Austell on 23 January and to threatening two men on Boscawen Street, Truro on 11 January. He was made subject to a community order and must abstain from drinking alcohol until 1 July. He also has to attend rehabilitation activities, do 80 hours unpaid work and pay £85 costs.

COLIN WHEELER, 29, of Cosgarne, Truro Road, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting by kicking a police officer in St Austell on 21 February. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay the officer £150 compensation, an £80 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

NATHAN CARBY, 27, of Margaret Crescent, Bodmin pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman at Royffe Way, Bodmin on 4 March and to damaging property in her home. The case was adjourned until 12 June.

TRAVIS BUTTON, 24, of Carlton Way, Liskeard has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with assaulting a police officer at Liskeard on 3 April, entering two homes with intent to steal, damaging a Range Rover Evoque and stealing a bag and, on 17 March, entering the doctors’ corridor at Oaktree Surgery with intent to steal. His case will be heard on 4 April.

OFFENSIVE WEAPON

WILLIAM DENNISON, 18, of Brooke Close, Saltash pleaded guilty to possessing a concealed credit card knife on Babis Farm Way, Saltash on 6 February. He will be sentenced on 2 May.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

MADALIN BARANESCU, 49, of Moorland Road, St Austell was made subject to a 28-day domestic violence protection notice on 26 February not to contact or threaten a woman.

HARASSMENT

SHAY ILES, 19, of Fore Street, Pool pleaded guilty to two charges of harassment when he breached a restraining order on 2 March and 28 February by attending Hillside Park, Bodmin and making contact with a woman he was prohibited from contacting. He will be sentenced on 20 March.

KARL WOODWARD, 54, of Clifton Terrace, Portscatho pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order imposed by Truro Crown Court last August when, on 9 October, he went to an address in Dabryn Way, St Stephen and contacted a woman he was prohibited from contacting. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £85 costs.

JAMES CROSBY, 38, of the Travelodge in Saltash pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order on 3 March by going to Atlantic Motor Services in Valley Truckle, Camelford which he was prohibited from doing by a restraining order made on 17 February. He was fined £100.

RACIAL OFFENCE

LEWIS MAPSTONE, 33, of Polwhele Road, Newquay had a warrant for his arrest issued after he failed to turn up to court to answer a charge of racially aggravated assault in Redruth in January 2023.

DEATH THREAT

LEWIS LIPPIATT, 28, of Minorca Lane, Bugle pleaded guilty to, at Llandrindod Wells on 20 June, sending a communication threatening death or serious harm, using threatening behaviour towards a man and a woman and damaging a letter box. He was made subject to a community order and must abstain from consuming alcohol until 1 July, remain at his home in Minorca Lane between 7pm and 7am daily until 3 June, pay £30 compensation, a £114 victim surcharge and £400 costs.

THREATENING BEHAVIOUR

CHARLENE WILSON, 36, of Belmont Road, St Austell pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour on land opposite Treliske Hospital’s helipad in Truro on 5 November. She was fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs. The offence was committed when she was on a suspended sentence imposed by Truro Crown Court last September on a public order charge. She was given a new suspended sentence committing her to prison for 12 weeks suspended for 18 months. The sentence also requires her to live at her address in Belmont Road for six months.

WILLIAM WOON, 49, of St Dominics Close, Bodmin failed to turn up to court to answer a charge of using threatening behaviour in Bodmin last July. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

JONATHAN TILLEY, 31, of NFA, pleaded not guilty to using threatening behaviour towards staff at Morrisons in Liskeard on 19 December and to failing to comply with a community protection notice by engaging in behaviour that may cause the public serious nuisance or distress. His case was adjourned until 20 March.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

DEBBIE MINERS, 42, of Edgcumbe Avenue, Newquay pleaded guilty to damaging a cell at Camborne custody centre in April 2024. She was ordered to pay £51 compensation.

THEFT

MARI SEWELL, 51, of Treffry Way, Par failed to turn up to court to face a charge of stealing household items from the Co-op in Roche in November – a warrant was issued for her arrest.

DRUNK

PAUL MURDOCH, 49, of Belmont Road, St Austell had a warrant for his arrest issued after he failed to turn up to court to be sentenced for being drunk and disorderly in Belmont Road, St Austell in November.

DONALD BENNEY, 48, of Pool Street, Bodmin pleaded guilty to being drunk in Dundance Lane, Pool on 16 December. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

DRIVING WITHOUT CARE

BILLY YOUNG, 26, of Crantock Street, Newquay pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention on Tregunnel Hill, Newquay on 19 December, to failing to stop for an officer and failing to provide a specimen of blood for analysis. He was made subject to a community order and must have mental health treatment, do 150 hours unpaid work and was banned from driving for 16 months. He also has to pay a £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

GARY BAKER, 54, of The Globe, Saltash pleaded guilty to driving on Callington Road, Saltash without due care and attention on 17 March. He was fined £80 and had six points put on his licence. He was spared a driving ban because of his medical condition.

RHEA THORINGTON-JONES, 38, of Slate Avenue, Liskeard had a warrant issued for her arrest after she failed to turn up to court to answer charges of driving without due care and attention on the A38 at Liskeard on 27 October, failing to stop on Plymouth Road, Liskeard when required to by a police officer, driving without insurance and driving a vehicle after the Secretary of State refused to grant her a driving licence on account of her disability in December 2021.

FAILED TO STOP

CHARLES WYE, 41, of Tremodrett Road, Roche pleaded guilty to failing to stop after a road accident when he hit a stone wall at West Pentire Road, Crantock on 27 October and guilty to driving without due care and attention. He had seven points put on his licence and was fined £120.

DRIVE WHILST DISQUALIFIED

CHARLIE HUGHES, 45, of Foxglove Road, Bodmin pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified on Dennison Road, Bodmin last September. He was banned from driving for six months, fined £916 and ordered to pay a £366 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

DRINK/DRUG DRIVE

EAMON GALLAGHER, 35, of Lusty Glaze Road, Newquay pleaded not guilty to driving on Henver Road, Newquay last November with 3.2 micrograms of cannabis per litre of blood exceeding the limit of two but guilty to having no insurance. His case was adjourned until 24 March.

CHRISTOPHER CONNAUGHTON, 40, of Kestle Mill, Newquay pleaded guilty to driving on Kestle Mill in November with 94 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood exceeding the limit of 80. He was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £833 and ordered to pay £85 costs.

GOLEM LUGJA, 31, of NFA, Newquay pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis when being investigated for a traffic offence and to possessing 5.04g of cocaine. He was given an interim driving ban and will be sentenced on 2 May.

JADE MURPHY, 30, of Polgover Way, Par pleaded guilty to driving on Penwinnick Road, St Austell in November with 56 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. She was given an interim driving ban and will be sentenced on 11 April.

ASHLEY BEYNON, 38, of Gwithian Road, St Austell pleaded guilty to driving on the A30 at Victoria last June with 12 micrograms of MDMA per litre of blood exceeding the limit of ten and 2.5 micrograms of cannabis per litre of blood exceeding the limit of two. He was banned from driving for three years and ordered to have mental health treatment, do 150 hours unpaid work and pay £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

JOSHUA MARSH, 26, of Lantic Road, Fowey had a warrant for his arrest issued after he failed to turn up to court charged with driving over the drug drive limit and without a licence.

PAULA TURNER, 44, of Doubletrees, St Blazey pleaded guilty to driving at St Mewan on 16 February whilst unfit through drink. She was banned from driving for a year which will be reduced by three months if she completes a course, fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

LEWIS ROBERTS, 28, of NFA, Bodmin pleaded guilty to driving on the A38 at Glynn on 15 February with 57 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35 and to driving whilst disqualified and without insurance. He was given an interim driving ban and will be sentenced on 16 May.

DANIEL ROWLING, 42, of Well Lane, Liskeard pleaded guilty to failing to provide police with a specimen of urine for analysis on 4 January whilst being investigated for an offence and guilty to failing to attend court. He was sent to Truro Crown Court for sentence on 27 March.

NO LICENCE

STEVEN BAKER, 47, of West Lane, Landrake who had pleaded guilty to having no driving licence, MOT or insurance for a vehicle he was using on Old Ferry Road, Saltash in January 2024 has been banned from driving for six months due to repeat offending, fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

SPEEDING

STUART WHEELER, 39, of Truro Road, Bodmin pleaded guilty to speeding on the A38 in Plymouth in May 2023. He was spared a totting disqualification because it would cause exceptional hardship to two of his employees who would lose their jobs, it would impact on his wife’s job and on his children’s medical appointments and his struggling company would lose contracts. He was fined £153 and ordered to pay a £61 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
