A Bodmin car park which has been at the centre of an ongoing legal row is to close indefinitely.
The dispute is between Bodmin Town Council and Tudor Hotel Collection Ltd, the owners of Bodmin Jail.
Berrycoombe Car Park, as it is referred to by the council, was built by developers working for Tudor Hotel Collection, formerly known as Mallino Developments and owned by Surrey-based Russian billionaire Timur Gorman.
After its construction, engineers working for the council said that the car park had not been built to the correct specification, including a required replacement town leat connection running under the ground.
It led to a dispute between the council, which owns the land it is built on, and the Bodmin Jail owners over the replacement of the leat connection.
The council now says it would face a bill of around £24,000 to continue renting a temporary bridge at the entrance to the car park which protects the town leat which flows beneath it.
The council says the car park has not made enough revenue to cover its costs and it can not justify using such a large sum of taxpayers money to keep the area open amid the ongoing dispute and other issues surrounding the matter.
The council said it is seeking an urgent resolution of the situation.
