A popular Newquay heritage attraction is staging a series of entertaining and thought-provoking events to boost visitor numbers outside of the busier summer season.

The Trenance Cottages Sessions will take place on Sunday afternoons in the autumn of this year and spring 2024 - and the limited tickets are for sale on a first come, first served basis.

Their function room will host St Dennis Ukulele Band for its Back to the 40s’ gathering on Sunday, October 15 between 2pm and 4pm and will include a small cream tea.

The band made its highly-acclaimed debut at Trenance Cottages’ annual ‘Fun in the Park’ event in summer.

Other sessions this year are a ‘Halloween Hunt’ on October 29 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm with tickets priced at £4 per child.

‘Harbour Tales from the RNLI’ will be staged on November 12 (2-4pm) and the ticket cost includes tea and coffee.

November 26 (2-4pm) will see ‘Line Dancing’ with Corena and tickets are £4.

Into next year, the first session on February 11 (2-4pm) is ‘Hands on History’, with traditional games and crafts for children aged six to 10. The cost is £3 per child.

Kim Parish will present ‘Building a Show Garden’ on February 25 (2-4pm). The event, including a plant sale, is £4 per person and includes tea and coffee.

Author Caroline Bowyer will talk about her book ‘Angels of the First Heaven’, all about guardian angels and arc angels, on the afternoon of March 10. Tickets cost £4 and include tea and coffee.

Finally, ‘Connecting with Nature, through Photography’ will be presented by photographer Mike Searle on March 24 (2-4pm). Mike worked with Newquay BID and will reveal how he chose photographs to promote the resort. The ticket cost of £4 covers tea and coffee.

The initiative to boost use of the function room at the cottages, which were saved by a hardworking team of volunteers for the enjoyment of locals and visitors alike, has been backed by three of the town’s Cornwall councillors.

Kevin Towill, Olly Monk and Louis Gardner have each given £250 from their community shest funds to help cover the costs of staging the events. Should the sessions, being run as a trial, prove popular, the aim is to extend the programme in the  future.

Chairman of the Trenance Cottages’ trustees, Jill Willmott, said: “We hope the sessions will prove popular and be a lively addition to our calendar of events, both in coming months and coming years.’

Tickets can be bought at [email protected] or by calling Julie on 07745 491230 or 01637 859496. The 40s event tickets are £7.
