The centre of St Austell was filled with colour as St Austell Pride took place at the weekend.

People were dressed in rainbow colours and the world’s largest Pride flag was paraded through the town centre on Saturday during the event organised by Cornwall Pride.

The parade, which began in Fore Street, was held to show support for LGBTQ+ people in St Austell, Cornwall and around the world.

A number of local organisations and their representatives backed the event. Among those showing their support was St Austell’s newly-elected mayor, Cllr Julian Young, who joined the parade for his first official engagement.

The parade through the sunny streets was followed by free entertainment in White River Place.

A Redruth-based drag queen known as Roxie Moron hosted the entertainment and sang at the event. Other entertainers also performed.

Support groups were present to raise awareness of services that are available.
