THE Cornwall Association of Tourist Attractions (CATA) recently celebrated its 50th birthday at Trelissick, the National Trust property near Truro.

The event on October 9 brought together members, industry experts and past chairs. CATA directors planted a tree in Trelissick’s gardens to mark its half-century.

Current CATA chair Jana Sirova, from Cornish Seal Sanctuary, said: “We had the most wonderful day, with inspirational speeches from founder members.

“We’ve got an ambitious programme for delivery for 2025, and we’re looking forward to growing our membership and representing the country’s top attractions for years to come.”

For five decades, CATA has promoted and supported Cornwall's array of visitor destinations, from heritage sites to hidden gems.

In the last 50 years, CATA has grown from a small group of pioneering founder members to 34 attractions ranging from historic landmarks and gardens to theme parks to art galleries.

Chief operating officer Nicola O’Donnell said: “We wanted to do something with a lasting legacy as part of the celebrations. Being part of CATA has been instrumental in expanding our reach. Collaboration allows us to work together to promote our region and create exceptional experiences for visitors.”
