AFTER highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at a farm near Rosudgeon in November, the area has now had it’s 3km protection zone removed.
Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the area around the premises, the 3km protection zone has ended and the area that formed this zone has now become a surveillance zone.
This was the first confirmation of HPAIH5N1 in kept birds this season and follows recent detections of HPAIH5N1 in wild birds both in the South West of England and in Europe.
In November, all poultry on the infected premises was humanely culled, while the protection zone and a 10k surveillance zone was put in place surrounding the premises.
