RESIDENTS are being consulted on plans to give Newquay’s most popular play park a £152,000 makeover.

Cornwall Council has three designs people can choose as their favourite to improve Trenance Play Park.

Option one titled Eibe involves creating a new junior and toddler area, which would include a Pinta play ship, an integrated carousel and a swinging play zone with two toddler seats and two flat seats.

There would also be a stand up seesaw, a Mary toddler play ship, a slide, whale climbing unit, steel zipline, dolphin play panel and an underwater diver play panel. There would also be accessible picnic benches.

The second option titled Sutcliffe includes a four metre high, two metre high swings, toadstools, a spring bee, an express train unit, ‘Bugs Life’ group see saw, a ladybird, a dish roundabout, a 25 metre cableway with take off platform, an in-ground trampoline and a high space net.

Consultation on the play park improvements has already been held with a number of the local primary schools, which will be fed into the final design.

The upgraded play park is due to include an all-weather surface as the area suffers from drainage issues.

Accessible play equipment is also due to be installed to cater for children with disabilities.

The play facility has been awarded £100,000 of investment from Cornwall Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy Fund and some other funds from the unitary authority.

Funds were applied for to upgrade the play park next to the Heron Tennis Centre following concerns the facility is falling into disrepair.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “We are consulting on a new equipped playground at Trenance Park.

“We have three design options where people can tell us their favourite design and let us know what they like and don't like.

“We will use the information you provide to inform the selection of the supplier and the final design for Trenance Play Area. The survey has been undertaken on behalf of the council's environment service.”
