A car park which is a popular spot for commuters to park free of charge may soon introduce a pay and display machine. Truro City Council is inviting people to respond to a consultation about introducing tariffs after four hours at Boscawen Park in the city.
The council wants residents to respond to a six-week consultation for the effective management of Boscawen Park, Hendra Park, The Library and Victoria Gardens car parks, as well as the future Boscawen Sports Hub.
A spokesperson said: “The main aim of this consultation is to obtain public opinion regarding the introduction of pay and display at Boscawen Park – allowing maximum four hours free parking.”
If approved, the first four hours parking at the riverside spot would be free, followed by a charge of £4.20 for four to five hours, £6.20 for five to six hours, £8.50 for six to seven hours and £10.50 for up to 24 hours.
The new Sports Hub car park would see no charge to park for 24 hours with four hours no return. Campervan and motorhomes would be prohibited from parking between 9pm and 8am.
Victoria Gardens car park would have no charge to park, from dawn to dusk, with two hours no return.
Campers and motorhomes would also be prohibited from parking. The Hendra and Library car parks would be for permit holders only.
Members of the public will have the opportunity to speak with Truro City Council staff on Monday, February 10 from 10am to noon and Tuesday, February 18 at Café in the Park in Boscawen Park.
There will also be an opportunity to speak with councillors at the Annual Town Meeting on Wednesday, March 12 at Truro Library at 7pm.
All responses to the consultation must be made in writing, addressed to the Town Clerk, and sent either by email or post to [email protected] or Town Clerk’s Department, Municipal Buildings, Boscawen Street, Truro, TR1 2NE.
