TWO CORNISH supermarket colleagues are celebrating working nearly 50 years in total for the same company.
Cheryl Young, a store manager, and Richard Allen, a deputy store manager, both work at Aldi’s Camborne store after joining the supermarket back in 1998.
Cheryl started as a store assistant before progressing to manager in 2005, while Richard also began as a store assistant and has worked as a deputy manager for the past 23 years.
Their are both heavily involved in the training of colleagues and running of the store, while they’ve also taken part in numerous fundraising events to support Aldi’s dedicated charity, Teenage Cancer Trust. Well-known faces amongst colleagues and customers alike, Cheryl and Richard have seen Aldi continue to grow and invest in the community over the years and become the UK’s fourth largest supermarket last year.
Cheryl said: “I remember when there were only eight colleagues per store, now Aldi is a household name and I manage a large team of 37 wonderful people. No two days are ever the same and I’ve built such a family with our colleagues and customers alike over the years.”
Richard added: “I am so proud to work alongside fantastic colleagues like Cheryl and it is amazing that we have worked together for more than two and a half decades now! We’ve come a long way as a team, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us at Aldi.”
Dan Oakenfull, the regional managing director at Aldi UK, said: “We are incredibly grateful to all of our colleagues and take great pride in celebrating their achievements.
“Colleagues like Cheryl and Richard have played a key part in our growth and success, and I would like to thank them for their contributions.
“Our colleagues allow us to connect with wider communities and continue to provide the high-quality service that customers keep coming back for.
