A Truro coffee shop and deli has taken top honours at the prestigious Taste of the West Awards for the third consecutive year.
Bread and Butter in River Street was praised for its unwavering commitment to the best local ingredients and for championing small and emerging producers across the county.
Owners Kate and Charlie Snell took over the premises in 2019, and have since built up a firm following among coffee aficionados, food enthusiasts and an enthusiastic casual brunch crowd.
Local suppliers are key, from Cornish Sea Salt to Origin coffee, DaBara sourdough bread on the Roseland and pastries from Zelah bakery Gorse, bacon and ham from Kittows and cheddar always Davidstow.
A second premises opened directly opposite the first in 2022, focusing on takeaway, bakery and take-home ingredients. Summer pop-up evening events have included weekly Greek Feast nights in collaboration with Athina of The Magic Whisk, and a sustainable wine tasting with The Bimbling Barrell.
“We are absolutely delighted to receive our third consecutive award from Taste of the West,” said Kate. “Our mission has always been to create a warm and inviting space where people feel welcomed and at ease, where they are served exceptional coffee and offered a menu that is bursting with really, really good food.
“Every day, we work with some wonderful suppliers and their ingredients are the foundation of some of our most popular dishes. Our golden frittata or fluffy American pancakes would just not be the same without using St Mawes Hens’ eggs.
“We’re lucky to have such exceptional choice on our doorstep.
“We are building great relationships with all of our suppliers, and we see our menu as a really good way to introduce people to the array of delicious food and ingredients that is produced so close to home.”
