MEMBERS of the St Austell and District Soroptimists Club have told how they were delighted to be a part of the “hugely popular and successful” community fun day in the town.
A spokesperson for the club said: “As a service organisation, St Austell and District Soroptimists were invited by the mayor, Cllr Julian Young, to support this year’s community event by providing a cake stall, to help on ‘the human fruit machine game’ and also to help on a craft stall.
“As always, members came up trumps with an abundance of cakes and bakery items to sell on the day, with proceeds going to the mayor’s charities, the Blue Light Services and Kernow Young Carers.
“Colin Hamilton, member Maggie’s husband, who is the deputy mayor, also assisted and contributed to the day.”
The entertainment on the day included an open mic session, a danceathon with Studio 4, a sea cadets drill, line dancing and a performance from Tango in the Night, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. Other fun things happening throughout the day staged in the town centre included the human fruit machine, an inflatable dartboard, badge making with St Austell Library, face painting, a sandpit and… a unicorn selling ice cream.
