A clear up operation has been carried out at Newquay Sports Centre fields after an unauthorised encampment left the area strewn in rubbish.

Wax Gym, which manages the area, has been clearing up the mess but some damage has been caused.

A spokesperson for Wax Gym said: “We have managed to move them on in less than 48 hours, with a mixture of hard work from our team, the police and the Cornish weather not being very inviting.

“Annoyingly the bins we gave them were hardly used and instead the rubbish was spread around the fields and in people’s hedges and gardens.

“Can we ask all members of the public to stay off the fields until we can clean them, removing rubbish, debris and human as well as dog waste.

“Our teams are already out in the rain clearing up the mess, but sadly there has been a fair amount of damage caused, which will take longer to fix.”
