ST Ia’s Parish Church, St Ives, is offering an opportunity for a young musician to join its music team as Organ Scholar.

Recognising the ever-growing shortage of proficient organists and choir directors that churches increasingly face, St Ia will fund this new scheme, which will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work with its director of music and choir.

The role will provide experience of organ playing and an insight into the provision of music within the Anglican Liturgy, in the hope of a life-long interest and love of music in worship and in preparation for for a future role as either an organist or choir director.

In addition to the cost of organ lessons on the 1907 Hele Organ, the church will contribute to the cost of travelling to and from rehearsal and services.

Jeffrey Williams, director of music, said: “That this is an exciting moment in the musical ministry of St Ia, and I firmly believes it is the responsibility of any church with a good musical tradition and fine organ to encourage future generations of church musicians, and that St Ia is well-placed to provide this.”
