NEWQUAY Town Council’s free Christmas tree recycling initiative has had a bit of extra sparkle this year.

A record 802 trees were dropped off by residents at the South Fistral car park collection area — nearly double the 416 trees collected last year.

The trees have been taken off-site to be chipped by the town council's environment service team.

The team worked for three days to chip the trees, transforming them into valuable mulch which will be used in Newquay’s public flowerbeds.

A small number of trees were also donated to the Friends of Fistral Dunes group to help with sand dune stabilisation.

A spokesperson for Newquay Town Council said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part.

“The success of this initiative is a testament to the shared commitment of the Newquay community towards responsible waste disposal and recycling.

“This initiative not only helps beautify the town but also promotes sustainable practices by reducing waste and supporting the local environment.”
