Cornwall hospice teams have launched a new initiative aimed at helping people connect with others who’re struggling after a bereavement.
Cornwall Hospice Care’s first Bereavement Help Point opened at Treverbyn Hall in Stenalees.
A monthly gathering, the event is aimed at bringing people together to support each other.
Clare Bray, community engagement officer for Cornwall Hospice Care, said bereavement is a difficult subject in which the charity’s clinical teams are sadly well versed.
In the last few years, the health care charity has developed a range of services to support those dealing with the death of a loved one.
Clare Bray said: “We want to encourage people to get talking, to find folk they can chat with on an informal basis.
“We won’t be sitting round in a circle sharing our experiences, just enjoying a cuppa, individual conversations and maybe a few crafty activities. Everyone’s welcome and it’s free.”
The first Bereavement Help Point took place on Monday at Treverbyn Hall. It will happen every month.
“We see a need to bring people together,” said Clare, “to make friends and have conversations with others who’re coping with bereavement.
“Our volunteers will be supporting the event and once we’ve got this one up and running, we’re planning on introducing more Bereavement Help Points around Cornwall.”
