GOOD causes are set to receive a share of almost £2,000 that a Newquay charity has raised.

Newquay Towan Blystra Lions will be handing out funds to 20 groups at its Brains of Newquay Quiz, which is being held at Newquay Golf Club on Sunday, June 23, at 7.30pm.

The popular annual event, which has been running since 2012, requires each of the teams to nominate a local charity or not-for-profit group to quiz for and the winning team can see up to £400 added to their cause’s coffers.

There are further prizes of up to £300 for second, third place and round winners, but every cause was guaranteed to receive a £50 donation just for the team turning up.

Quiz teams will be representing various causes including the RNLI, Newquay Cormorants, NSPCC, Newquay Marine Group, Lusty Surf Lifesaving Club, Mount Edgcumbe Hospice, Age UK Govenek Centre, Children’s Hospice SW, Trenance Cottages Heritage Trust, Newquay Foodbank and Friends of Indian Queens School.

Colin Wellington from Newquay Towan Blstra Lions said: “If you fancy a fun night out and can raise a team of up to four people, get in touch as soon as possible to reserve one of the remaining places.

“Entry to the quiz is free of charge but places must be booked in advance. So, a guarantee of £50 for your local good cause and a friendly social evening free of charge. What’s not to like.”
