Young writers and artists throughout Cornwall are being invited to create a work of art or write a poem, story or report on the theme of “Celebrations” as part of the build-up to this year’s Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature.

Open to young people aged four to 16 who are living in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, the 2023 competition is being sponsored by Waterstone’s, the Atishoo Gallery in Charlestown, the Arts Society Bodmin, Fowey River Gallery and the Fowey Hall Hotel.

“The theme can be interpreted in many different ways, and we are looking forward to lots of entries from across Cornwall,” said Lynn Goold, chair of the festival’s trustees.

“Our judges are writers, artists and teachers who will be looking at every submission carefully before announcing the results on April 17.

“An awards celebration event will then be held on April 29.

“This is an annual competition that has always proved very popular and, in our 25th anniversary year, we are hoping for more entries than ever.

“It’s a great opportunity for budding young writers and artists to showcase their work and develop their talent.

“Our festival attracts some of the biggest names in the creative world and, who knows, could be a stepping stone towards future literary and artistic success for younger members of our community associated with it.

“A huge thank you to our sponsors - their continued support is invaluable.”

The closing date for entries is March 15.
