COMMUNITY-SPIRITED residents chipped to help raise £489 at Newquay Golf Club for a children’s charity.

Thirteen teams battled it out at Newquay NSPCC group’s annual quiz, which was won by Mike and Pat Hill, Hilary Payne and Sue Ashton. They each won a bottle of wine.

Patricia Harnett, who helped organise the event, said: “The annual NSPCC quiz was a huge success thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

“There was £489.50 raised during a very enjoyable evening.

“The money will be used to deliver vital services to schools, families and children in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

“Many thanks to the golf club for their hospitality and an especially big thank you to Trevor Ashton for setting the quiz and for running a smooth evening.

“Thirteen teams enjoyed some challenging questions which caused a few of us to dig deep!

“Congratulations to the winning team.

“We thank all those who donated raffle prizes and a huge thanks to all those people who braved the weather to help raise money for our very important charity.”
