Six projects that are delivering investment in community, arts, sport and leisure, active travel and town centre improvements, have successfully bid for additional funds from Camborne Town Deal Board.

Create Contemporary Crafts Hub will receive nearly £1-million. This will be invested in the fabric of Create’s home; the Donald Thomas Centre which is an iconic Grade ll listed Greek Revival building in the centre of Camborne.

It will support renovations to the glass and jewellery studio, provide green energy solutions and increase the number of planned workspaces for fledgling businesses from 12 to 20.

Park Gerry is to benefit from a further £250,000. This will fund a multi-use games area previously withdrawn from the plans for new sports, games and community facilities, due to budget constraints.

The new Basset Community Hub will benefit from an additional £233,605. The extra funding will enhance the planned installation of a heritage exhibition as part of the renovations for the benefit of the whole community.

The £1.89-million awarded is part of the £28.9-million combined funding pot from Town Deal and Cornwall Council and is re-allocated from a project not taken forward.

Val Dalley, Chair of the Camborne Town Deal board said: “We promised residents that all the money allocated to Camborne would stay in Camborne and I’m pleased to see it will add enormous benefit to our communities and people of all ages and interests.”

The three other projects to benefit from additional funding are:

  • Camborne Rugby Club: £250,000 to replace existing visitor toilet facilities with new family and disability friendly facilities.
  • Lifecycle: £80,000 to replace a section of deteriorated boardwalk and bridge on the Red River trail, which have both reached the end of their maintainable lifespan.
  • Renew: £150,000 to fund traffic monitoring solutions that will measure the success of investment designed to encourage people into, and to stay longer in, Camborne town centre.

Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for economy, added “It is good to see positive outcomes materialise from a reluctant decision earlier this year. Camborne Town Deal board continues to rise to the challenge of steering ambitious and community-led investments, and I look forward to following their progress.
