A bake sale organised by Imerys staff raised £860 for Cornwall Hospice Care.

More than 30 people donated sweet and savoury bakes, enough for two days of sales, which raised £428.60 which was rounded up and match-funded by the clay mining company.

Hannah Cutlan, who works in the supply chain department at the Par Moor Centre, said charity coffee mornings at Par Moor and Fowey have been successful for nearly four years.

“We are very fortunate to have a big team who like to get involved in raising money for charity,” she said. “We enjoy getting all departments involved and bringing everyone together – it helps to keep Imerys a close knit community and it’s a mood booster.

“The option to ‘bake or fake’ - to give non-bakers a chance to get involved - was opened to the whole of Imerys in Par Moor, and they did not disappoint, resulting in lots of cake being eaten and even more money raised. As Cornwall Hospice Care is local, it is close to many of our hearts.”

Oliver Hoare, head of fundraising at Cornwall Hospice Care, thanked the Imerys team, adding: “With this support, over 30 hours of care from one of our hospice nurses have been funded; it helps to make every day matter.”

This is just the most recent charity donation from the Imerys office staff, who have also donated this year: £700 to the Royal British Legion following a raffle of unwanted Christmas gifts, with proceeds match-funded by Imerys; £500 to Cancer Research by export documentation team member Brigitte Case, who completed 100 Skips a Day in February; and £120, again matched by Imerys, to Brain Tumor Research following a ‘Wear a Hat’ day at Drinnick stores in Nanpean.

Mark Hewson, Imerys UK hub director, said: “We have an incredibly generous and highly motivated team at Imerys, not only in Cornwall but also further upcountry. We think it is essential to support the communities in which we operate, and I am constantly proud of my colleagues and delighted for them to receive some recognition for their charity fundraising efforts.”

A team is about to undertake the Imerys Trail Half Marathon for Cornwall MIND. The event takes place on Sunday, with marathon, half-marathon and fun run options. Entries close at 6pm on Friday; find more information at www.imerystrailmarathon.co.uk
