Two site managers involved in Newquay’s urban expansion have received building industry accolades.

Brendan Leech, of CG Fry & Son, was named as a regional winner in National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Awards.

He triumphed in the medium builder category for his work at Nansledan.

Brendan also received a Pride in the Job Seal of Excellence as did David Mitchell, of Morrish Homes, for his work at Rialton.

Brendan will now go on to compete in the national finals after his success at the regional awards ceremony in Bristol.

He said: “I started with CG Fry in January 2014, almost 10 years ago. I have worked in site management for the past 23 years, and for almost 40 years in this industry.

“To win a regional award means a great deal to me personally and is a credit to the team around me and especially CG Fry for all their support.

“These awards improve the quality in our industry and give our customers confidence they are buying the best quality homes.

“I didn’t expect to win this award, but to finally win the regional award was a career goal of mine.

“To be recognised like this is something the whole team can be proud of.

“None of this would have been possible with the backing from CG Fry.”

Morrish Homes site manager, David Mitchell, has received the accolade of not only a Pride in the Job award but was further recognised with a Seal of Excellence at the NHBC Pride in the Job awards 2023 for his exemplary work at the Nansledan site.

David said: “It’s a fantastic honour to have won a NHBC Seal of Excellence Award, not just for me, but for the whole team.

"This is testament to all the hard work that my team and I have put in to produce high-quality homes for our customers.

"We take great pride in ensuring that every Morrish home at Rialton is completed to the highest possible standard and it is great to be recognised for this. This is a long-awaited reward to the Morrish family for the years of hard work in Cornwall.”

Everyone at Morrish Homes is incredibly proud of David for winning this award, with Eugene Rapson, Morrish Homes Joint Managing Director, saying: “We are thrilled that Dave has won a coveted Seal of Excellence at this year’s NHBC Pride in the Job Awards. It is a testament to the hard work, dedication and focus put in by Dave and the team at Nansledan that they have been recognised at such a high level. At Morrish Homes we strive for excellence in every aspect of the business and this is a great example of where members of our team have been recognised for delivering high quality new homes for our customers.”

NHBC chief executive Steve Wood said: “For more than four decades, Pride in the Job has underpinned NHBC’s purpose of raising standards in house building.

"The competition recognises the best site managers in the UK, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence. "We are celebrating the vital role site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards.”
