A SIXTY-YEAR-OLD administrator is taking on a tandem skydive to mark World Mental Health Awareness Day.

Liz Webb, who works for Harland Accountants in St Austell, will be jumping out of a plane from 15,000 feet in support of Cornwall Mind on Friday (October 11).

Liz said: “Everyone has mental health, but with health services in crisis, particularly in Cornwall, I wanted to do my bit to support a charity that makes a real difference in our community.

“Working for an accountancy firm, I particularly wanted to highlight to business owners that help is out there. I know from first-hand experience that, as a group, business owners are some of the most stressed but least likely people to seek help. Cornwall Mind are there for all of us.

“I feel blessed that I have always had someone that I can talk to about my worries, but I know that there are some that don’t or can’t speak to someone. I want to highlight to all of you that know me, have spoken to me/will speak to me on the phone or in person that Cornwall Mind are there for you.

“I did a ground-based skydive 10 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, so when the opportunity presented itself with Cornwall Mind to do the real thing, I thought why not?!”

Liz, who has worked at Harland Accountants for many years, is being backed by her colleagues.

So far, she has raised more than £1,000 for Cornwall Mind, but she’s aiming for a total of £1,500 by the time she takes to the skies on Friday.

Harland Accountants director Deborah Edwards said: “We are incredibly proud of Liz’s bravery and commitment to this cause.

“Mental health is an issue that affects all of us and we hope Liz’s skydive will not only raise significant funds for Cornwall Mind but also encourage more people, particularly business owners, to seek the support they need.
