The third Bodmin Beast marathon is being planned for April 28, 2024.

And for the first time there will be a half-marathon which the organisers have named the Beastie McBeastRace.

The main race, the Beacon Beast Marathon – The Bodmin Way! to give it its full title, is based on The Bodmin Way walking and cycle routes.

The marathon is a beast, with around 3,000ft of elevation, while the half-marathon will near 2,000 ft of elevation.

“People living all over the country are already entering the events,’ said a spokesperson.

“At present, we have most entrants from Bodmin and the surrounding areas entering again. We have increased the entry participation numbers from 150 in 2022 and 200 in 2023 to 300 for 2024.

“Our events are an opportunity for everyone in our communities to be involved in some way by either running, volunteering, sponsoring or spectating.

“Race director Sharon Hambley and her team consisting of Lesley Taphouse, Tam Shilham and Scott Cavill along with Dave and Julie Bidgway have helped the marathon to progress over the last two years. Barbara Brittain, The Bodmin Way planner, has been involved since the start incorporating the route and the local churches into the event.

“We continue to feel it has gone well and the people of Bodmin and the surrounding villages (Lanhydrock, Lanivet, Nanstallon and Cardinham) remain very supportive.

“The event is increasing in popularity and due to its success, we were able to donate more than £5,500 to many local charities and community groups in the first two years.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of Bodmin Town Council.

“It is an event the town can be proud of and with continued support we hope to continue for many years.

“Like the main race, the half-marathon will start from near Bodmin Football Club but then climb up Monks Walk and up to the Beacon to join the second half of the marathon course heading to Lanhydrock and then Cardinham.”
