Big changes at Healthwatch Cornwall over the last twelve months have reenergised the organisation and enthused both staff and volunteers.

Debbie Gilbert joined as CEO in December 2023 and has since overseen the signing of new five-year contracts with Cornwall Council, a relocation to offices in Newham, Truro and a whole team restructure.

“A lot has happened and a lot more will be happening over the next year to ensure we make an even more significant contribution to improving local health services,” said Debbie.

“Our role is all about listening to what the local community is saying about their health experiences and reporting them to NHS decision-makers. We’ve done good work in the past, but now is time to grow and make an even bigger impact.

“We all know there are a lot of health-related issues out there, and Healthwatch has a critical part to play in making sure they’re brought to light at the highest levels and properly addressed.

“We’ve just published our annual report which lays out key priorities for next year. They include revisiting our previous research on the cost of living and focusing on the top issues we're hearing about - particularly people's concerns regarding lack of services and inequalities in mental health. We’ll also be taking a closer look at the disparities in access to dental care.

“We’ll be holding an open day in the coming months to explain what we’re doing and why.”
