AS part of a book launch tour, author John Ironmonger, who spent part of his childhood living in Cornwall, will be visiting Falmouth and Penzance in mid-March.
He will be the guest at events at the Falmouth Bookseller (Friday, March 19) and The Edge of the World bookshop in Penzance (Saturday, March 20), where he will talk about his new book, The Wager and the Bear.
John's previous book, The Whale At The End Of The World, also set in Cornwall, was an international bestseller which sold thousands of copies in Germany.
John speaks with passion and authority on the subject of climate change and in particular, on the perilous state of the Greenland ice sheet, which he visited when researching this novel.
The Wager and the Bear is the story of an idealistic young Cornishman, Tom Horsmith, and his lifelong feud with a pompous Tory politician, Monty Causley, whose dangerous wager around climate change will follow them through five decades and ultimately find them on a huge iceberg floating away from Greenland, with only a ravenous polar bear for company.
