Architects from a St Ives firm have planted 400 trees to help reforest an area of countryside near Helston.
Staff from Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole planted 250 trees in 2023, adding to the 150 trees they planted in 2022.
Three hundred trees have been planted at Farm Common near Helston with Plant One, a community interest company that brings business, individuals, and landowners together to plant trees.
PBWC Director Chris Turner said: “Our projects consistently demand that we think about the sustainability of our design work and as a business, we are very conscious of our impact on the environment. We are proud to contribute to Plant One’s reforestation efforts in Cornwall, helping to restore woodland habitats and improve the environment for future generations.”
Farm Common will hopefully develop into a small oakwood habitat over time, bringing a small copse of trees to a highly deforested area. It will also provide the landowner with a shelter belt from the wind for his wildflower meadows.
The site is mostly made up of oak trees, but Field Maple, Alder, Birch, Wild Cherry, Hazel, and Crab Apple trees were also included. Additionally, Common Dogwood shrubs were planted.
Rai Lewis from Plant One explained: “Each tree species will mature at a different rate, but the dogwood shrubs, wild cherry and crab apples should mature in the next ten years. The Alder will mature faster than this, whilst the oaks could take 30 to 50 years to reach maturity. Of course, the growth rates are highly dependent on the weather.”
