Affordable homes are being built at two developments near Newquay for local people looking to get their foot on the property ladder.

Housing association Westward Housing Group is providing 26 affordable homes as part of larger Legacy Homes developments in Cubert and Goonhavern.

Seventeen new affordable homes are being constructed at Highfields in Cubert which will provide a mix of 12 rented and five shared ownership homes in the shape of flats, bungalows and houses.

The Grange in Goonhavern will provide a further six rental and three shared ownership homes, again for local people.

The Grange will provide a mix of property sizes from one-bed flats to two-bed bungalows and two- and three-bed houses. In addition, the range of tenure types mean there are affordable rent and part-rent part-buy options available.

Westward chief executive Barbara Shaw said: “I am pleased that our mixed developments of high quality flats and family homes, for both rent and shared ownership, will provide a range of options to meet high local and affordable housing need.”

The Cubert homes will be ready from the autumn and the Goonhavern homes will be available in spring. The two estates will provide a total of 60 family homes, the remainder being open market property sales from Legacy Homes. A local connection for Westward’s affordable homes applies at both Cubert and Goonhavern, so that these homes can benefit local people.

Neil Simpkin of Legacy Homes said: “Legacy Homes is delighted to be renewing its partnership with Westward at our latest developments in Cubert and Goonhavern, having previously created homes for local families at Crantock. As a Cornish housebuilder, we’re proud to be providing new homes that are built to a very high standard and seamlessly create new communities alongside our open market homes.”
