Truro Cathedral has announced that Interim Dean Fr Simon Robinson will be the permanent replacement for Rev Roger Bush, having filled the role on a temporary basis since October 2022. Downing Street made a formal announcement on Thursday that His Majesty The King had approved Fr Simon’s nomination.
Fr Simon said he was “over the moon” at his appointment. “I am truly excited to be working and serving at this great cathedral here in Cornwall,” he said.
“I am committed to my belief that Truro Cathedral is here for everyone who lives andworks and visits Cornwall. It does not belong to me; it belongs firstly to Godand then to everyone, whoever they are and whatever their faith status is.
“Truro Cathedral was built to the glory of God by the people of Cornwall. It stands proudly reaching up to the heavens as a place of worship, something that is of great importance and that with colleagues that I hope to continue to develop and grow.”
Fr Simon, who was previously Vicar of Minehead and has a long history of senior leadership in the education sector, continued: “The cathedral is also a place of historical importance, a treasure to be cared for, a place of important heritage, again something I hope to celebrate.
“And importantly, the cathedral is a place of gathering, engagement and celebration of the skill, talent and interest of the gift that is the diversity of humanity: art exhibitions, concerts, lectures, and many different events. These all play a part in our life and in our offering into Cornwall.
“Working as a team, we will achieve great, good and Godly things for and with the people of Cornwall and the very many people who are drawn here from the four corners of the globe.”
The Rt Revd PhilipMounstephen, Bishop of Truro, said: “I’m very pleased indeed that Fr Simon’s role is to be permanent. I know he has greatly impressed many with his strong faith, evident delight and trust in God, and his great desire that Truro Cathedral should be a place of excellence in both worship and mission.”
Simon will be installed in the autumn by the Rt Revd Hugh Nelson, Bishop of StGermans. All are very welcome to attend the service.
The Diocese of Truro includes over 300 churches in more than 200 parishes across the whole of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (plus two in Devon), an area of 1,370 square miles. The diocese is one of 42 in the Church of England.
