A college in Camborne has recognised student excellence at its annual awards evening.
Camborne Science International Academy staged a Celebration of Achievement event to award year 7, 8 and 9 student’s academic, sporting and personal achievements.
The high-achieving students received certificates and shields in recognition of their efforts at the ceremony, which was attended by family members.
The evening was punctuated by a programme of musical performances, which included Camborne Brass band performing a rendition of Lord of the Dance, whilst Corey Williams, Ethan Sewell and Lola Gerrans delivered solo acts.
Awards were presented by head teacher Lucy Askew, the headteacher of Troon Primary School and Sarah Wilkins, the headteacher of St Meriadoc Junior Academy as well as governors Julie Bishop and Asif Tahir.
Camborne Science International Academy awards a number of accolades bespoke to its culture and history. The Stuart Soloman Award is handed out to students who display considerable commitment to their school life, and was this year awarded to Oashia Mankee.
The Moffat Music Cup goes to a student who displays outstanding creative dedication to the subject, and was received by Ethan Sewell for 2024.
The Godrevy Plate was awarded to Rosie Bishop, for bringing about substantial change in the school community from within.
Returning from last year were awards that recognise outstanding achievements in reading and celebrate the promotion of the school’s values of Integrity, Respect, Altruism, Ambition and Resilience.
Trophies were handed out to the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year across each academic group. Sportsman of the Year was awarded to Jacob Roberts in Year 7, Alfie James in Year 8 and Julia Pawlowska in Year 9.
Sportswoman of the Year was awarded to Olivia Jenkin in Year 7, Nadine Helgesen-Khan in Year 8 and Tristan Garland in Year 9.
Shields were presented to the overall Student of the Year for years 7, 8 and 9. The Year 7 Female Student of the Year was awarded to Abbie Tonkin Pearce and the Year 7 Male Student of the Year was presented to Oscar Ashwood.
Macey Barnard was recognised as the Year 8 Female Student of the Year and Gwyddion Huntley as the Year 8 Male Student of the Year.
Year 9 Female student of the Year was awarded to Skye Melbourne and Year 9 Male Student of the Year went to Joe Gerran.
Vice Principal Mark Fenlon said: “This event is always a highlight on our calendar. It’s a wonderful opportunity to shine a spotlight on our students right alongside their friends and family, as we celebrate exceptional performances from those enjoying their first year at CSIA, right up to those about to begin their GCSE’s with us.” Principal Emma Haase added: “Camborne Science International Academy students continue to excel and move from strength to strength year after year, so events like our annual Celebration of Achievement only become more important to recognise the many achievements of our student body.
“Every student should be incredibly proud of their year, regardless of whether they picked up an award this evening - you are all becoming wonderful ambassadors for our school.
“A special mention goes to our amazing staff for their continued exemplary support and guidance. The hard work and dedication they put into the wellbeing and success of their students is apparent for all to see, nurturing talents, realising potential and allowing these students a platform to be the best versions of themselves. As always, thank you for their commitment to learning.”
