DEVON and Cornwall Police are investigating a serious road traffic collision near Coverack and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called to reports of a collision involving the driver of a tractor and a silver Kawasaki motorbike on an unclassified road at Trevothen, between Coverack and Penhallick on The Lizard, at around 4.25pm on Wednesday, April 2.

As a result of the collision, an 88-year-old local man was taken to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance in a life-threatening condition. His next of kin are aware.

A second man was treated for minor injuries at Treliske Hospital and was later discharged.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Officers from the Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team attended the incident and carried out a detailed investigation of the scene, with the road remaining closed for around six hours.

“A man in his 60s from Porthleven has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving, using a motor vehicle in a public place without third party insurance and driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

“He has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.”
