Cornwall Fire and Rescue were called out to the Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) yesterday following reports of an alarm going off within a building on site.

One appliance from Truro Fire Station was immediately alerted. Shortly afterwards, the Critical Control Centre received a second call from staff reporting a smell of smoke. A second appliance from Tolvaddon Fire Station was dispatched.

Upon arrival, smoke was seen coming from the building. The incident commander requested two more appliances, which were sent from Perranporth and Tolvaddon. Two whole-time officers were called in and an Incident Command Unit alerted.

A small fire was subsequently located in a boiler room and put out using a CO2 extinguisher. The building was not part of the main hospital and had no impact on patient care. The Truro crew remained on scene before handing the incident over to an engineer.

During this incident, appliances from St Austell and Hayle provided cover in the Truro and Tolvaddon areas.
